Monday 11-25-2024:
On Monday 11-25-2024 at 11:00AM and lasting approximately 2 hours, the following procedure was performed:
Cardioversion is a temporary fix using a non-invasive procedure that uses an electrical current to shock the heart and restore its normal rhythm.
Current Condition - Monday 11-25-2024:
(1.) Afib stands for atrial fibrillation (AF), which is a type of arrhythmia, or abnormal heartbeat. Afib is caused by extremely fast and irregular beats from the upper chambers of the heart (usually more than 400 beats per minute). A normal, healthy heartbeat involves a regular contraction of the heart muscle. AFIB can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications.
Her heart is being monitored and treated by a team of doctors from Cottonwood Cardiology.
Some treatment options follow but either would not work or considered too dangerous given the conditions of her lungs.
Sharon is receiving the Blood Thinner ELIQUIS to help prevent blood clots, slow the heartbeat, and/or restore a normal rhythm. Other drugs she might be recieving are not known to me at this time.
(A) Cardioversion is a temporary fix using a non-invasive procedure that uses an electrical current to shock the heart and restore its normal rhythm.
(B) Catheter ablation is a procedure that uses radio-frequency energy or other sources to terminate or modify a faulty electrical pathway from sections of the heart of those who are prone to developing cardiac arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter and Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.
(C) A Pacemaker - Can cause breathing issues (e.g., shortness of breath).
(2.) Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common lung disease causing restricted airflow and breathing problems. There is no cure for COPD, and the damaged airways don't regenerate.
I lost the cardiologist's contact and current treatment information. I will secure this information next opportunity to do so.
She receives several "breathing treatments" daily, is on oxygen, and using a BiPAP machine. The BiPap machine helps push air into your lungs. A mask or nasal plugs are connected to the ventilator. The machine supplies pressurized air into your airways. It's called positive pressure ventilation because the device helps open your lungs with this air pressure. The machine increases oxygen in and helps remove carbon dioxide.
(3.) Low Blood Presure. Treatment for this is unknown by me at this time.
(4.) Brain Cloud. "What's the name of this hotel?"
Note: none of these conditions including the Low Blood Pressure are new but preexisting (off and on) since she was admitted on 11-2-2024. Her mental acuity seems to have deteriorated during her stay at the hospital.
Home care:
Per doctor referral (details unknown at this time), I have been contacted by A&s Home Health Care 972-386-7744 several times that will be providing home care (details unknown at this time) when she is released. We will contact each other upon notification of her release.
Medical Power of Attorney:
Due to her current mental acuity, a hospital chaplin prepared a Medical Power of Attorney on 11-15-2024 listing Russell, Joseph, Jody and Jason as Health Care Agents (someone you choose to make health care decisions for you when you cannot). While listed last, Jason seems to be gettinga lot of calls when Russell is unavailable. The power of attorney is valid forever until revoked.
Living Will:
On 11-15-2024 the hospital chaplin also prepared a Living Will.
